2021-2022 Pups Travel Softball Fall Tryouts

The Carmel Dads’ Club would like to invite players to an open tryout for potential placement on a 10u or 12u travel softball team. The Pups program offers a challenging and competitive opportunity for players looking to take the next step in their softball development. 

The birthday cut off for participation is 12/31/2009. Players born before this date would need to participate on a 14u team which is not being offered at this time.

Teams will practice weekly and participate in 1-2 fall tournaments in September and October. During the winter off-season, players will be given the opportunity to participate in weekly workouts and conditioning as in-season sport schedules permit. The 2022 season will start in earnest in March and runs through July 31. Practices will be held two days a week at the softball complex at Cherry Tree Elementary. Depending on team placement, teams will participate in 4-10 weekend tournaments throughout the spring and summer months. Most tournaments are within a 90-minute drive of Carmel. If teams achieve the requisite points/placements they will participate in the USSSA Great Lakes National Tournament. This is a week-long event that has traditionally been held in Evansville, IN.   

Tryouts will be held Monday and Tuesday, August 16-17, 2021 from 6:00-8:00pm at the Cherry Tree Softball Complex. Call backs, if needed, will be Wednesday, August 18 also from 6:00-8:00pm at the Cherry Tree Softball Complex.

Players will be evaluated on the fundamental skills of fielding, catching, throwing, base running, and hitting. Please bring a glove, bat, helmet, and mouth or face guard to the tryout. Bats and helmets will be available for those who need them. Cleats may be worn but are not necessary. Players will also be evaluated for pitcher and catcher positions if interested. Catching gear will be available for use.

To register, please go to and click on the Travel Softball tab or log into your account and register for Pups Softball Tryouts. Tryout fees will be refunded if the player does not make a team. Registration is now open and closes Thursday, August 12.

This program will focus on fundamental skill development, improving players’ knowledge of the game, teamwork, citizenship, and fun. We are looking for athletes who want to proudly represent Carmel throughout the state of Indiana.

The Carmel Dads' Club offers a fun, challenging and competitive environment for advanced players who are ready to hone in on their softball skills. We will focus on player development and improving each participant’s fundamentals and knowledge of the game.

Lady Pups Travel Softball Age Levels
10U,12U - we will field teams as we are able to at each level. 

Tryouts will be announced in June.

Off season training for Pups Softball will be held October- March.  Players participating in another in season sport should plan on attending off season training as their schedule permits. The main season for travel softball is March- July.


Our Gold teams function as our “A” teams and our Blue teams function as our “B” teams though in several age groups, because the talent level of the players in our program has continued to improve, there is often very little difference in the skill level of the players from Gold to Blue. Many of our Gold and Blue teams play against the same competition and even occasionally end up playing each other. Teams are typically made up of 12 players.

Most teams will play about 40 games (varies by age level) and will practice twice a week between March 31stand mid July. Many of these games take place as doubleheaders or multigame tournaments that can consume an entire weekend.

In season practices are held twice per week at Cherry Tree Softball Complex, River Road park or Clay, Carmel, Creekside Middle School Fields.

The decision as to whether fields are playable rests with the CDC Staff or their representative.

No outdoor practice or game shall begin with a STORM WARNING (Thunderstorm/Tornado) in effect at the start time of said practice/game.

Mandatory 30 minute wait when lightning and/or thunder is observed. Fields must be cleared. This 30 minute wait will restart at each observed lightning and/or thunder.
