2019-20 PUPS BOYS BASKETBALL TRYOUTS

2019-2020 Tryouts
Pups Travel Basketball will hold tryouts starting September 15th for Boys in 2nd-6th Grades (2019-2020 school year).  

Players must  register for travel basketball tryouts on the CDC website (main page) starting September 1. 

Location: Carmel High School Fieldhouse (Door 16- park at Door 13)

FIRST ROUND - Sunday 9/15
12:00-1:30p      2nd & 3rd Grades
2:00-3:30p        4th Grade
4:00-5:30p        5th Grade
6:00-7:30p        6th Grade

SECOND ROUND - CALL BACKS*
All sessions are 7:00-8:30p

Monday 9/16       4th Grade
Tuesday 9/17       2nd & 3rd Grades
Wednesday 9/18  5th Grade
Thursday 9/19     6th Grade

CDC Pup Boys Travel Basketball Overview

The Carmel Dads' Club offers a fun, challenging and competitive environment for advanced players who are ready to hone in on their basketball skills. We will focus on player development and improving each participant’s fundamentals and knowledge of the game.

ELIGIBLE GRADE LEVELS
2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Grades

TRYOUTS
Tryouts will begin in mid September.  There are three rounds of tryouts for each grade.  It is expected that all boys will attend all rounds of tryouts for their grade if at all possible. The strongest players in each round will be invited back to the next round of tryouts.  There will be cuts made in each round to get down to the final 32 boys for each grade by the end of the third round of tryouts.

SEASON DURATION
 
The Pups season begins in late October and continues into March for regular season games and tournaments, and April for the State Tournament.  Practice will begin after Fall Break with games starting around the middle of November, unless a team plays in a Halloween tournament in which case, they will start playing at the end of October. 

TEAMS 
The intent is to have the 8 strongest players play on the Gold team, the next 8 strongest players play on the Blue team, the next 8 play on the White team, and the next 8 play on the Grey team for each grade. It is the evaluators and CHS Coaching staff discretion to place 9 players on a team.

RECOMMENDED MAXIMUM GAMES PER SEASON 
The maximum recommended number of games by the program is 40 games for 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders; 50 games for 5th graders and 60 games for 6th graders.
 
PRACTICES 
Based in part on a high demand for court time across multiple sports and age groups, Pups teams will typically practice 2 nights per week for 1 1/2 hours per night.  Practices are generally held at the Carmel High School Fieldhouse Courts or at one of the Middle School Courts.  Practice times typically start as early as 6:00 PM and are generally done by 9:00 PM depending on gym availability.  Typically the younger teams (2nd-4th grades) get the earlier times and the older teams (5th & 6th grade) get the later times.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

All families are asked to fulfill a volunteer obligation by working as Head Coach, Team Sponsor, Sport Commissioner, Concession Worker or paying the Opt-Out Fee when they have a child playing in this sport.

HEAD COACHES
Volunteer coaches are needed for every team. Please consider volunteering as head coach when registering your child. Coaching positions in PUPS TRAVEL BASKETBALL are application only and candidates are interviewed by the CHS COACHING STAFF and steering committee in August. 

Head Coaches are asked to attend a coaches meeting before the season starts and will receive rosters, schedule and uniforms. Coaches will sign up for their practice time from available times and locations.

ASSISTANTS AND OTHER NEEDS
We are also in need of parents that are willing to assistant coach or be time/score keeper from time to time. These volunteers do not receive credit as the head coach does but we appreciate their willingness to step in and serve.
