Offseason training occurs at a selected indoor baseball facility on Sunday nights. This training is directed by the age group’s coaches and runs January-March. Our season starts right after Spring Break and will run through mid-July. In general, the season schedule will include two 90-minute practices per week. Games are usually scheduled on weekends during the school year. These games include doubleheaders and tournaments, which could be played on Friday evenings, Saturdays, and/or Sundays. Some weekday/weeknight games are played, especially once school has ended. In general, Pups teams play 30-50 games per season, which is dependent on their age. Our home fields are located at Gray Road Park, which is close to 106th and Gray. Please feel free to contact 2021 Carmel Pups Baseball General Manager, Pete Richason, with any questions. cdc travel baseball overview

Travel Baseball provides a unique opportunity for athletes to experience competitive baseball at the next level. However, developing players’ baseball knowledge, skill, character, love of the game and sportsmanship always remains the top priority.

ELIGIBLE AGE LEVELS
7U-12U Age Groups

TRYOUTS

Registration for tryouts will be late July. Tryouts will be held August 20-24 at Gray Rd Park. Specific times will post shortly. 7u Tryouts will not be held until the spring.

SEASON DURATION
Off season training for Pups/Hounds will be held December- March.  Players participating in another in season sport should plan on attending off season training. The main season for travel baseball is March- July.

TEAMS

Our Carmel Pups teams are 7u-12u age groups. In each age group, we usually have two 11/12 player teams. Our Gold teams function as our “A” teams and our Blue teams function as our “B” teams though in several age groups, because the talent level of the players in our program has continued to improve, there is often very little difference in the skill level of the players from Gold to Blue. Many of our Gold and Blue teams play against the same competition and even occasionally end up playing each other. Depending on the number of players trying out in each age group it is possible to field white and gray teams at certain age levels.

RECOMMENDED MAXIMUM GAMES PER SEASON
Most teams will play about 35-45 games (varies by age level) and will practice twice a week between March 31stand mid July. Many of these games take place as doubleheaders or multigame tournaments that can consume an entire weekend.
All coaches will plan for a week or two off during the summer to allow for families to schedule vacations. Players’ families are expected to try to plan their vacations accordingly.

PRACTICES
In season practices are held twice per week. Pups players will practice at Gray Rd Park and Hounds Teams will practice at Clay, Carmel, or Creekside Middle School at the coaches discretion.

SEVERE WEATHER POLICY

The decision as to whether fields are playable rests with the CDC Staff or their representative.

No outdoor practice or game shall begin with a STORM WARNING (Thunderstorm/Tornado) in effect at the start time of said practice/game.

Mandatory 30 minute wait when lightning and/or thunder is observed. Fields must be cleared. This 30 minute wait will restart at each observed lightning and/or thunder.

Umpiring is a good way to develop leadership and professionalism. Pay is based on experience and level of competition umpired, ranging from $15 and up per game. Again, umpiring experience is not required. If interested, please contact our umpiring coordinator, Todd Mewhinney, at [email protected].
