MINOR LEAGUE GENERAL INFORMATION

MINOR LEAGUES consist of Pre-K (must be 5 years old by September 1st), Kindergarten (currently in Kindergarten, First Grade (currently in 1st Grade) and Second Grade (currently in 2nd Grade).

For a complete schedule of events, please see above.

PreK and Kindergarten begin the season hitting off a “T” (if needed) and gradually are moved to the coaches pitching to them. The first grade and second grades are coach pitch. Each group is taught additional rules of the game as they get older.

Minor League Baseball is practiced and played at the Carmel Dad's Club fields behind Towne Meadow Elementary, 10850 Towne Rd. Children practice one evening a week and have a Saturday game. When school is out they have a game during the week and one on Saturday.

Dads' Club will supply shirt, hat and socks for the uniform. You must purchase white baseball pants and a fielding glove. Cleats are optional (non-metal) but not necessary.

Dads' Club will provide T-Ball bats for Pre-K & Kindergarten. 1st and 2nd grade bats can not exceed 28" in length or 2 1/4 " in barrel size. This will be strictly enforced - this is for safety of the players.

All-Stars for 1st and 2nd grade start the day after the last regular season games and goes through July. There is an additional cost to participate.

SPECIAL REQUESTS: For Pre-K, K and 1st Grades, we will try to accommodate most requests (coach, car pool, practice night) where possible. For 2nd Grade, team balance will be achieved from previous season coach’s evaluations, before special requests are considered. Note that parent’s who volunteer (coach, assistant, sponsor and team parent) will have priority on their requests. However, no requests can be guaranteed.

Also note that the Minor League Baseball season is conducted exclusively at the CDC Minor League facility at Towne Meadow Elementary School on the west side of Carmel, therefore requests for east side practices and games are not possible.

CDC Baseball Commissioner's Position on Playing in Grade - or not in "Playing Up"

The Commissioner's position is that players in the in-house recreational league will play within their current grade in school and not be allowed to "play up". The only exceptions will be for players whose birthdate is before May 1st, where it would affect their eligibility for All-Stars, and for siblings who are allowed to play up on the same team for parent convenience.

The in-house recreational league is grade based (not age based, not skill based). The skill range of players in all grades range from beginner to advanced and everything in between. Rules start at basic for Pre-K and advance to High School Rules by the 7th grade. As players advance in grade, some players advance their baseball skills faster than others, some advance in the early grades and some advance in later years. The CDC tries to balance teams in the in-house program so that all players can develop and be competitive. It is the duty for each coach to try to arrange practice drills so that players at all levels on their teams are challenged.

For players with advanced skills and abilities, we have All-Stars starting in the 1st Grade and Pups/Hounds (Advanced Travel) starting in the 4th grade through the 8th grade. All-Stars and the Pups are for players with advanced skills as well as the desire and commitment (both time and money) to play in a more competitive baseball setting.

We feel that these avenues provide the best environment for all of our players to grow and develop.
