Carmel Pups Travel Football Program
2008 Guidelines
MISSION STATEMENT
To develop and prepare our players with the knowledge, skills and
fundamentals to compete on the football field against the highest level
of competition in the state. To also help instill good sportsmanship,
character, leadership skills and a strong connection to the Carmel High
School Football program. To provide a positive and rewarding experience
to help build a passion and love for the game of football. To prepare
players to compete at the Junior High and High School level.

PUPS FOOTBALL COACH SELECTION
Coaching candidates will obtain an application from CDC and submit it
to the General Manager by December 1 for the upcoming season.
Candidates with the best combination of coaching experience,
training, organizational skills, leadership skills, fair judgment, and
commitment to the CDC football program will receive the highest
consideration.
Interviews will be conducted by the Pups General Manager and the CHS Varsity Head Football Coach.
Selection of the Pups Head Coach will be announced no later than January 20.
Selection of the Pups assistant coaches will be held by the Head
Coach, General Manager, and the CHS Varsity Head Football Coach (if
desired).
COACHING PHILOSPHY
The Pups Head Coach and assistant coaches must be willing to implement
the overall philosophy of the CHS football program as laid out by the
CHS Head Coach.
This overall philosophy will include:
Offensive schemes (age and skill level appropriate)
Defensive fronts and schemes (age and skill level appropriate)
Practice drills and fundamental development
Terminology
Player toughness and aggressiveness
Establishing Carmel football tradition
CARMEL PUPS FOOTBALL COACH EXPECTATIONS & CONDUCT
Sign and comply with a Code of Conduct.
Submit to and pass CDC background check.
Willingness to commit to being a Pups Head Coach for a minimum of two years.
Support the philosophies and mission of the CDC and CHS football programs.
Ability to attend over 90% of all practices and 100% of games.
Yearly coaching evaluations and re-application will be mandatory.
Attend coaching and player clinics offered by the CHS varsity staff.
Year-end player evaluation.
Compile and maintain statistics to assist in following years team selection.
Use good judgment in player motivation. Intimidation, cursing, and humiliation will not be tolerated.
Coaching misconduct and poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated.
Encourage player participation in other CDC sports when not playing football.
Encourage player participation in Carmel football at the next levels.
TEAM SELECTION
Evaluation of the players trying out for Pups football will be done
primarily by the CHS football staff. The General Manager will select
additional evaluators as necessary at his discretion.
Pups football tryouts will be done over a 2 to 3 night period for all
2008 5th 6th grade boys. Tryouts and player evaluation will be done
by focusing on predetermined drills. Participants must make every
effort to attend all the nights of the tryouts. Equipment for the
tryouts will be supplied by CDC. Tryouts will be closed to the parents.
TEAM MAKE UP
The team will consist of 5th and 6th grade boys, not to exceed 33
players in accordance with the IEFA rules and regulations. The team
will be known as the Carmel Pups Football Team.
LEAGUE PARTICIPATION
The Pups football team will participate in the Indiana Elementary
Football Association (see attached Rules, By-Laws, History and Roster).
NUMBER OF GAMES
All A games are played on Saturday afternoon or evening. All home
games will be played on the High School field. In the event the High
School field is unavailable; the Saturday game will be played at the
Carmel Jr. High School field or Wodock Field. All home B games will
be played Monday evenings at Wodock Field.
There will be 8 regular season A games, with the possibility of 4
playoff games if advanced to the State Championship. The number of B
games will vary.
PRACTICES
Practices will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. In
the event there is no B game, the team may also practice on Monday
night.
There will be no practice on Friday night.
All non-scheduled practices must be approved by the Pups General Manager.
All practices will be held at Wodock Field unless approved by Pups General Manager and the CDC General Commissioner.
The Head Coach, Coordinators and Assistant Coaches will oversee practices.
OFF SEASON
The Pups coaching staff will encourage Pups football players to participate in other CDC and school sports and activities.
PARTICIPATION IN OUTSIDE SPORTS
During the Pups football season, participation in the Pups football
program is to be given priority over other sports. Attendance at all
Pups football practices, games, and other team meetings is required.
TEAM UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT
Uniforms and equipment will be provided by CDC.
Uniforms will consist of home and away jerseys and pants.
Equipment for tryouts will be obtained via the CDC rental program.
Parents are responsible for the care and cleaning of the uniforms.
